India were 347 for six at stumps on day one of the one-off Test against Afghanistan in Bengaluru today. A total of 103 minutes of play was lost following the two rain interruptions. India won the toss and elected to bat. Opener Murali Vijay scored the 12th century of his Test career as the Afghanistan fielders were sent on a leather hunt.
The other Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan hammered 19 fours and 3 sixes during his 91 ball pre-lunch century. With this, Dhawan became the first Indian and sixth player in the world to score a pre-lunch century . For Afghanistan, Yamin Ahmadzai claimed 2 wickets, while Rashid Khan, Wafadar and Mujeeb Ur Rehman got one wicket each.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had yesterday hailed Afghanistan for choosing to play its maiden Test match against India. He said, cricket is a unifying force for the people of Afghanistan now. The Prime Minister said India takes pride in being shoulder-to-shoulder with Afghanistan in this journey.
