After remaining nill till half time, Antoine Griezmann converted a penalty into a goal giving the france 1-0 lead against Australia.
That was coolly equalized by a goal by Aussie Mile Zedinak. Paul Pagba of France did a victory goal at 80th minute.
France are seeking their second World Cup title after victory at home in 1998. For Australia, it was the ninth World Cup encounter with a European nation.
Another match is underway between Iceland and Argentina at Spartak Stadium in Moscow. Both the teams have scored 1 goal each when reports last came in.
In the third fixture at Saransk at 9.30 p.m., Denmark will clash with Peru, who are returning to the World Cup after a 36-year wait. In the Group D game slated to begin at half past midnight, dark horse Croatia will take on African powerhouse Nigeria at Kaliningrad.
