Tributes paid to Madr-e-Mehrban on 18th death anniversary
 
JAMMU JULY 11- National Conference on Wednesday paid glowing tributes to Madr-e-Mehrban Begum Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah on her 18th death anniversary and recalled the most crucial and pioneering role she played during the political movement launched by Sher-e-Kashmir besides upliftment of women and weaker sections of the society.
Leading the senior leaders, party functionaries and workers in paying floral homage to Begum Akbar Jehan, at a function held at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan here, former minister and State Secretary National Conference Mr Surjeet Singh Slathia said that Madr-e-Mehrban worked tirelessly all their life to strengthen the bonds of amity and brotherhood between communities and regions. He particularly referred to the role played by Madr-e-Mehrban in bringing about harmony, promoting female literacy, empowering women in different spheres and working towards the betterment of down-trodden segments of society, irrespective of caste, creed and colour.
Mr Slathia also referred her role in generating political awakening at a crucial time when Sher-e-Kashmir was in prison. “She kept the movement of massive alive and worked tirelessly for mitigating the sufferings of suppressed people of the State”, he said and exhorted the people to strive for a strong, united, vibrant, peaceful and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir.
While paying tributes to Madr-e-Mehrban, Mr Mushtaq Bukhari said she was an embodiment of sacrifice who shared the pain and agony of the masses.
Mr Sheikh Bashir Ahmed said a strong and stable National Conference was guarantee to satiate political, economic and developmental aspirations of the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh, the agenda which has already been set in motion by the grandson of visionary leaders
Speaking on the occasion, Mrs Satwant Kour Dogra Provincial President Women Wing Jammu Province who organized the function said the people of Jammu and Kashmir will always remain indebted toMadr-e-Meharban for keeping the great mission of Sher-e-Kashmir alive during his long spell of imprisonment. She described her contribution in promotion of female literacy and empowerment of weaker sections of the society as exemplary and added that her life has been an example of selfless service to poor and needy.
In his tribute, Mr Babu Rampal said that “Madr-e-Meharban stood like a rock against the conspirators of National Conference and infused a new vigour to the movement launched by Sher-e-Kashmir to seek a dignified life for the people, irrespective of caste, creed, region or religion.
He said that Begum Sahiba’s role in female literacy, empowerment of women, welfare of Gujjar, Bakerwals, SC/ST communities will be remembered for all times to come.
Mr Ajaz Jan Provincial President YNC also paid their respectful homage to Begum Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah and threw light on various facets of her life. They referred to the role played by Begum Sahiba in generating political awakening at a crucial time when Sher-e-Kashmir was in prison.
In his homage, Th. Kashmir Singh Ex- MLC , Senior leader said, “Madr-e-Meharban has contributed immensely for women empowerment and promoting female literacy in Jammu and Kashmir. He said Begum Abdullah gave a new dimension to the political movement when Sher-e-Kashmir was in prison and stood like a rock against the conspirators. She infused a new vigour to the movement launched by Sher-e-Kashmir to seek a dignified life for the people, irrespective of caste, creed, region or religion””, he added.



Mrs Laxami Dutta, Mrs Veena oberia, Mrs Daljeet Sharma, Mrs Lata Sharma, Mrs Pinky Bhat, Mrs Kuldeep Kour, Mrs Amrit Varsha and Mrs Soma Devi also paid growing tributes to Madr-e- Mehrban described Madr-e-Mehrban a towering figure of Jammu and Kashmir whose services to the people of all the three regions will remain guiding force for the party. “Whenever historians will write on Sher-e-Kashmir, they cannot afford to ignore Madr-e-Meharban, as the persona of the tallest among the towering leaders of the time was incomplete without this great lady”, they added.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included: Mr Qazi Jalal Ud Din Ex-MLA, Mr Brij Mohan Sharma Ex-MLC, Master Noor Hussain Ex-MLC, Mr Dharamveer Singh Jamwal, Mr Anil Dhar, Mr S. S Bunty, Mr Abdul Gani Teli, Mr Vijay Lochan, Mr Ayub Malik, Mr G. H Malik, Mr Mohinder Singh, Mrs Dilshad Malik, Mrs Reeta Gupta, Mohd Saleem Rtd DC, Mr Rohit Bali, Mrs Anju Grover, Mrs Raj Kour, Mrs Neena , Mr Mohd Farooq Mughal, Mr Sanjay Gupta, Mr Ravi Dogra, Mr Rakesh Singh Raka, Mr Reyaz Malik, Mr Som Raj Taroh, Mr Rohit Kerni, S. Tejinder Singh, Mr Nitish Gowshami, Mr Waris Gill, Mr ML Munshi, Mr Reyaz Ahmed and others.
Earlier, a prayer meeting was held at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan Jammu organized by G.H Malik Joint Secretary.
Commemorative functions to pay homage to Madr-e-Mehrban were also held by District and Block National Conference committees across the Jammu region.
