Taliban insurgents kidnap over hundred bus passengers in Afghanistan's Kunduz province

Afghanistan 20 August(Agencies)
In Afghanistan, Taliban today ambushed a convoy of buses in Northern Afghanistan and took more than 100 people hostage. The incident took place in Kunduz province. The spokesman for the Kunduz Governor, Esmatullah Muradi said the kidnapping happened this morning when three passenger buses were coming from Takhar province to the capital, Kabul.

He said the passengers were forced to step down and they have been taken to an undisclosed location. The police chief of Takhar province, Abdul Rahman Aqtash said the passengers were from Badakhshan and Takhar provinces and were travelling to the capital, Kabul.
The ambush came despite Afghan President Ashraf Ghani's announcement yesterday on a conditional ceasefire with the Taliban during the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha this week. The fate of the abducted in Kunduz province - in an area that has recently fallen under Taliban control - was not immediately known and there was no statement from the insurgents.
