NASA's InSight spacecraft successfully lands on Mars after six-month journey | | | Washington 05 December,2018(Agencies) NASA's robotic InSight lander on Tuesday successfully landed on Mars after the six-month journey.
The spacecraft has been designed to dig deep into the rocky surface of the Red Planet to reveal its secrets.
The US space agency's InSight mission team in a statement said, the lander sent signals indicating that its solar panels are open and collecting sunlight on the Martian surface. NASA's Mars Odyssey orbiter relayed the signals of the landing, which were received on Earth this morning.
Solar array deployment ensures the spacecraft can recharge its batteries each day. Odyssey also relayed a pair of images showing InSight's landing site.
The Insight lander touched down near Mars' equator on the western side of a flat, smooth expanse of lava called Elysium Planitia.
InSight will study the interior of Mars, and will teach about valuable science as they prepare to send astronauts to the Moon and later to Mars.
The probe was launched from the Vandenberg Air Force Base in California on 5th of May. | | | |
