Hockey World Cup: India beat Canada by 5-1, enter quarter finals

India registered a comprehensive 5-1 win over Canada to march into the quarterfinals of the 2018 Hockey World Cup at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Saturday.

India started of their final pool match with a goal in the first quarter.

Harmanpreet Singh scored in the 12th minute through a penalty corner, giving India an early lead in the match.

But after the opening goal, the second quarter went goalless as both teams failed to find the back of the net.

In the third quarter, Floris van Son stunned the Indian team, scoring the equaliser for Canada.

In the final quarter of the match, Indian attackers upped the ante and scored four goals in quick succession to take the game away from Canada.

Lalit Upadhyay scored twice while Chinglensana Singh and Amit Rohidas scored a goal each in the last quarter, helping India register a thumping win against the World No.11 team.

BELGIUM BEAT SOUTH AFRICA 5-1

Olympic silver medalists Belgium defeated South Africa 5-1 in their final pool match of the Hockey World Cup in Bhubaneswar.

Nicholas Spooner scored in the 1st minute of the game to give South Africa 1-0 lead.

But after that Belgium changed their gear and scored 3 goals within a span of 9 minutes to make it 3-1 in favor of Belgium.

Alexander Hendrickx scored Belgium's first goal in 14th minute. Soon Simon Gougnard scored a beautiful goal to give Belgium lead in the match.

Towards the end of 2nd quarter Red Lions scored 2 more goals to increase Belgium's lead.

In the last quarter Belgium scored one more goal to seal the match 5-1.
