Kashmir shuts against Kulgam killings

SRINAGAR, APR 12 (Agencies): A complete shutdown was observed on Thursday across Kashmir against the recent civilian killings in Khudwani village of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
Curfew-like restrictions were imposed in Nowhatta, M R Gunj, Rainawari, Khanyar, Safa Kadal, Maisuma and Kralkhud areas since early morning for precautionary measures.
All shops and business establishments were closed and traffic was off the road in civil lines and uptown Srinagar though few private vehicles, besides cabs and three-wheelers, were seen plying on some routes.
Due to the widespread protests by students on Thursday, authorities ordered the closure of all schools, colleges, and universities in the Valley and all the exams scheduled for today have been cancelled.
Pertinent to mention, the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), comprised of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq, and Muhammad Yasin Malik has called for peaceful protests today against the civilian killings in Khudwani village of Kulgam district. Geelani and Mirwaiz continue to remain under house arrest while Malik has been lodged at the Srinagar Central Jail.
Train services between Banihal and Baramulla also remained suspended today for the second consecutive day, while fast speed internet services also remained suspended in parts of Kashmir, especially in South. (PTK)
