Karnataka Assembly Election: Last day to file nominations today

Today is the last day for filing of nominations for the Karnataka Assembly elections slated to be held on the 12th of next month. A total of 1,127 nominations have filed, so far.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah filed his candidature from Badami today. He had earlier filed his nomination from Chamundeshwari.

Congress has fielded Ravikumar Ganiga, a former Journalist from Mandya, as actor-turned-politician Ambareesh is not contesting from there.

Meanwhile, BJP has announced its fifth list for eight constituencies excluding Varuna and Badami. According to the list given by BJP, 52 of its candidates are filing the nominations today.

In another development, the Income Tax department conducted raids in Mysuru and Bengaluru against Contractors today. Eleven contractors in Mysuru and one in Bengaluru were raided on allegations that they are influencing the elections by channelising funds.

Media reports that the IT department has clarified that no political leaders are raided today as reported in some sections of the media. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has however condemned IT raid on PWD minister Mahadevappa in Mysuru and termed it politically motivated. KPCC President Dr.G Parameshwar too has termed the raids on PWD minister as misuse of IT department by the Central Government. In the BJP camp, the announcement of candidates for Varuna and Badami is eagerly awaited as time is ticking out for the nomination filing will close at 3.00 pm today.
