Paralympic Committee of India unveils kit for the Tokyo Games

New Delhi 26 July(Agencies)
Our Paralympians will be participating in the Tokyo2020 Paralympic Games with the same playing kit with which our Olympians are competing in the ongoing Olympics.

Blue, white, orange, and green are the dominant colours on the T-shirts, shorts, and tracksuits. The tracksuit is royal blue, with the right sleeve of its jacket sporting the Indian tricolour – saffron, white, and green – shoulder downwards. “Under the guidance of Narendra Modi, the Paralympic Games have been put at the same pedestal with our regular Olympians and this playing kit is another step in that direction. We have not imported it from any other country but it imbibes the ‘Make in India’ concept, feels Indian, it smells Indian and it has got a great nostalgia about it.”, said Deepa Malik, President of Paralympic Committee of India.

The ceremonial kits though are little different than our Olympians keeping the needs of our differently abled players in mind. “Para players need to wheel themselves and our amputees need to wear their braces, so the design is little different keeping in mind the comfort of our para players in mind”, Deepa Malik added.

Apart from unveiling, the day was also important as only 30 days are now remaining for the Paralympic Games. Many state associations along with players and officials cut cakes, flew balloons and sent their best wishes to the Tokyo bound contingent. This time a record number of 53 athletes are participating in 9 different disciplines. Many of the athletes have not only just qualified for the Games but have created world records during their trials. Also, currently, more than 10 players are ranked within top 3 participants in their event category which raises medal expectations.
