First batch of Indian contingent for ISSF Junior World Championship arrival in Lima

A first batch of 36 shooters, coaches and support staff reached the Peruvian capital of Lima on Sunday, a day ahead of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Junior World Championship, scheduled between September 27-Oct 10, 2 o021.



Three physiotherapists and five coaches are among the batch consisting mainly of Air and Skeet shooters whose events are detailed in the initial few days.

The ISSF Junior World Championship for all events is the highest level of international competition at the Junior level and the overall 74-shooter strong Indian contingent has among them the cream of Junior Indian Shooting talent including Olympians Manu Bhaker and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar besides such names as Vijayveer Sidhu, Anish Bhanwala, Ganemat Sekhon and Mehuli Ghosh, who have played for the senior India teams earlier.

This will also be the first multi-discipline event since the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, which will see participation from as many as 32 nations and nearly 370 athletes.

Competitions begin on Thursday, September 30, 2021, with the Men’s Junior 10M Air Rifle giving out the first medal. There are 14 gold medals at stake in the first three competition days of the championship.
