CEO of another e-commerce platform arrested in Bangladesh

Continuing with the crackdown on unscrupulous e-commerce platforms and companies, Bangladesh police arrested the CEO of Qcoom for embezzling customer’s money.

A Dhaka court put the CEO of Qcoom Ripon Mia on two day remand on Monday. He was arrested from Dhaka after a customer filed a case against the company for cheating him.

During the initial questioning, the CEO has confessed to not delivering goods worth TK 250 crores to the customers taken in advance. Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) in its briefing told media that taking advantage of the lockdown during the Corona pandemic such companies lured customers to their schemes offering big discounts on products.

Earlier, on Saturday, police arrested the Director of the social media platform ringID on charges of fraud and cheating of customers. ringID is accused of cheating customers to the tune of over Tk 200 crore through its ponzi scheme.

Chief Operating Officer (COO) and two of top officials of the e-commerce company Dhamka were arrested last week for cheating customers by offering them huge discounts and attractive schemes. The amount of fraud in the case of Dhamaka is allegedly close to Tk. 400 crore.

On September 16, the CEO and Chairpersons of Evaly were arrested for allegedly cheating customers for close to Tk. 1000 crore.
