Unannounced load shedding acute Problem
Editorial written by Ashok Raina
Day and night electricity blackout continues in the several parts of the state people are facing severe problems and there is a critical situation in the supply of electricity to the remote areas like Lekarmzhal, Tingdar, Tetwal and Griz, while electricity supply has been practically banned for electricity consumers living in metered and unmetered areas, settlements and colonies. The situation of power supply in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, which is rich in water reservoirs, especially in the valley, is surprising because in terms of power projects and power generation, the rivers of the state are less than hens that lay golden eggs for the NHPC are facing and people are very worried due to day and night electricity.
The summer capital of UT Jammu and Kashmir from Srinagar to Shopian, Kulgam, Pahalgam, Kokarnag, Odi, Tetwal, Karna, Grizbandi, apart from Pura, in Budgam, Ganderbal and other areas of central Kashmir, in Srinagar and other towns, from the month of November, Bijli goes to Ghapa after leaving Srinagar with the Sarkar Darbar. The people of the valley shower their blessings whenever they need it. From Srinagar to the remote areas like Lekarmzhal, Tingdar, Tetwal and Griz, there is a critical situation with the supply of electricity from November, while the electricity consumers living in metered and non-metered areas, settlements and colonies are experiencing power outages. The supply has been virtually cut off and the electricity supply has remained stable since October. For the people of the valley, electricity has become a commodity that the people here want the most. However, as common consumers in state are being hit with the stick of cut, it is a violation of the rights of the consumers because now the consumers of the valley do not use free electricity but pay more fees than what is provided to them to use the electricity.
Every day people are seen coming out of the roads and highways to protest against the non-availability of electricity, non-supply, cut-off schedule, eyesores and low voltage, but no one listens to them and does not address their complaints or grievances. If people keep their protest going on, the police are immediately pelted with sticks on the protestors in motion and if the electricity consumers still do not move, they are treated like angry youths or thugs and are fired with teargas and pepper gas shells.
The situation found is surprising because in terms of power projects and power generation, the rivers of the state are no less than hens laying golden eggs for NHPC. The natural water resources of Jammu and Kashmir have played a role in making HPC from a small corporation to a financially self-sufficient and profitable institution. Governments and relevant authorities are dragged to the courts on the issue of violation of their rights, and there not only justice is provided to them, but also reprimanding the owners of solutions and contracts, as well as compensation to the consumers who are victims of violation or injustice. In the state of Jammu and Kashmir, there are two main reasons why consumers do not go to the relevant courts for justice. Firstly, they do not know about their rights and secondly, they fear that they will not be able to get justice. (Ashok Raina )
