Met predicts moderate to heavy rain in Jammu
 
JAMMU AUGUST 31:- Residents of the already rain-battered Jammu region were alarmed by light to moderate rains and lightning that began around 10 pm on Friday. Jammu region has witnessed mass death and destruction in the recent spell of heavy rains. From August 14 to 26 at least 138 lives have been lost in rain-related incidents in Kishtwar, Kathua and Reasi districts. The Met department has predicted one or two spells of rain and thunder at a few places of Jammu division from Friday afternoon and towards late night till September 2. “A spell of light to moderate rain at scattered to fairly widespread places with possibility of moderate to heavy rain and thundershower at few districts of Jammu division are likely,” said a Met official. Jammu, Aug 29: The Jammu-Srinagar national highway was closed for traffic for the fourth consecutive day on Friday due to multiple landslides triggered by heavy rains in the Udhampur-Ramban belt, leaving over 2,000 vehicles stranded, officials said. The 270-km-long stretch, the only all-weather road linking Kashmir with the rest of the country, was blocked by multiple landslides at several places between Jakheni and Chenani in Udhampur on Tuesday following heavy rains and flash floods, they said. Highway is closed for the fourth day. No vehicular movement shall be allowed from Nagrota in Jammu towards Reasi, Chenani, Patnitop, Doda, Ramban, Banihal and Srinagar," a traffic police official said. The arrested accused has been identified as Slocus Nar (Junior Assistant) S/O Sh. David R/O Old Rehari Jammu, then posted as Cashier in the office of Xen, Mechanical Division Jammu.
