Centre approves buying of different weapon systems worth over Rs 70,000 crore for Defence forces
 
New Delhi March 2017:-
Defence Acquisition Council has approved proposals worth 70,500 crore rupees for buying different weapon systems for the Indian defence forces. A meeting of the Defence Acquisition Council chaired by Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh was held in New Delhi on Thursday.

Out of the total proposals, Indian Navy proposals constitute more than 56,000 crore rupees, which largely includes indigenous BrahMos missiles, Shakti Electronic Warfare systems and Utility Helicopters-Maritime.

The Defence Ministry said, this additional procurement of the BrahMos missile system will enhance the maritime strike capabilities and Anti-Surface Warfare Operation. The Ministry said, the procurement of Utility Helicopters will multiply the operational readiness of the Indian Navy in the domain of Search and Rescue operations, Casualty Evacuation and Humanitarian Assistance Disaster Relief. Similarly, Shakti Electronic Warfare systems will equip and modernise the frontline Naval ships to counter any Naval Operations by the adversaries.

The Ministry said, the total Acceptance of Necessity granted for Capital Acquisition in the current financial year is over 2.71 lakh crore rupees, out of which 99 per cent of the procurement will be sourced from Indian industries. The Ministry said, the such quantum of indigenous procurement will galvanise the Indian industries towards achieving the goal of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
