Relief to Pakistani refugees
 
The Jammu and Kashmir Government approved the timeline of Central Relief Scheme for Pakistan Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK) and Chhamb refugees of 19651 and 1971 with the approval of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to be extended till 31 March 2024 next year.

The Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction is sincere at present regarding the extension of the timeline of the scheme, central for one-time resettlement of displaced families of POJK (1947) and Chhamb (1965 and 1971) assistance under the rehabilitation package in Jammu and Kashmir from 31 March 2022 to 31 March 2024, the cabinet approved on 30 November 2016.

The Central Assistance for Temporary Resettlement - Within the sanctioned expenditure from 31st March 2022 to 31st March 2024. Rs 2000 crore has been earmarked for this scheme under the Prime Minister's Development Package announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Srinagar on 7th November 2015 had been gone in its order; the government today said that the scheme will not be extended beyond the sunset of March 31, 2024.

The Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction have notified the MHA on July 12, 2022 and December 9, 2022 for the timing of the scheme. Extension of the line was requested. On 3 May 2023, the MHA communicated its approval for the scheme till 31 March 2024 under the rehabilitation package approved by the J&K Cabinet.

The Cabinet approved the inclusion of 5,300 DP families of Jammu and Kashmir 1947 who initially chose to move out of the (former) state of Jammu and Kashmir but later returned and settled. 5.5 lakhs under the existing scheme for the displaced families of PoJK and Chhamb under the PM Development Package 2015 for Jammu and Kashmir approved by this (Union Cabinet) on 30 November 2016

has made them eligible for one-time financial assistance of Rs., and consequently, also eligible to receive some permanent income which was the objective of the present scheme. The series of relief and rehabilitation packages extended by the state government of J&K In the past, the central and J&K governments have implemented several rehabilitation programs through cash assistance along with agricultural land, residential plots, houses and other facilities. Despite the extension of the packages, the displaced persons (DPs) of PoJK and Chhamb were turning to the Govt. Again they were forced to part due to war and hostility to pay compensation for the properties.
