| GCW Udhampur celebrates Basant Panchami | | | | UDHAMPUR FEBRUARY 15,2024: Government College for Women(GCW) Udhampur celebrated the festival of Basant Panchami with great zeal and festive fervour. To mark this festival of spring, a special programme was organised by the Music department under the guidance of Principal of the college Prof. Anjali Mahajan.
The celebration commenced with the lighting of traditional lamp of learning and offering yellow flowers to Goddess Saraswati which was followed by the presentation of Saraswati Vandana by the students of music department.
On the occasion, HOD Music Dr. Seema Sharma presented welcome speech and also informed the students that Basant Panchami day is dedicated to Maa Saraswati, the Goddess of knowledge, music and arts.
According to the Hindu calender Basant Panchami festival falls on the fifth day (Panchami) of the Hindu month of Magha. The festival is usually considered to mark the onset of spring in India. As per the Hindu beliefs Maa Saraswati the goddess of learning, music and art was born on this day and thus to achieve wisdom and art from her, people celebrate Basant Panchami as Saraswati Pooja.
Later, different students exhibited different talents including singing, dancing, reciting poems, delivering speech etc., and were appreciated with applause. Raag Durga was also played on Sitar by the student sitarist.
The department of Music was decorated with yellow flowers, rangoli and balloons. Around 250 students of this college witnessed the programme.
Further, halwa (sweet dish) was distributed among the students and staff of the college.
The organizing committee for this event comprised of Dr. Seema Sharma, Head of the Music department, Dr. Shallu Jasrotia, Dr. Sanjay Kumar. Mr. Yash Kumar and Nitika Sharma. The program was concluded by the formal vote of thanks presented by Dr. Shallu Jasrotia, Assistant Professor of Music. | | | | |
