Strong Winds and Hailstorm Cause Damage to Apple Orchards in Shopian | | | Shopian, Oct 6 : Strong winds in Shopian last night caused minor damage to apple orchards, with a number of apples falling prematurely. In addition, the Hirpora area experienced a hailstorm in the evening, leading to slight damage to ripened fruit.
Following the weather event, a joint team from the Horticulture and Revenue Departments visited the affected areas to assess the situation. Officials have assured farmers that the damage is minimal and should not cause alarm. Horticulture Officer Shopian, Muzaffar Ahmad Naikoo, stated, "The winds caused an estimated loss of only about one percent. While the hailstorm in Hirpora caused minor damage, it is not expected to affect the overall yield."
