Rao removed as VB chief, second change in a month

New Delhi March 27:-
The Punjab government has removed 1995-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer G Nageswara Rao from the post of chief director of the Vigilance Bureau (VB) and replaced him with SPS Parmar.

Rao, who had assumed the role just last month, was removed due to concerns over his performance, particularly his failure to clear files and the absence of major cases registered during his tenure, people familiar with the matter said.
SPS Parmar, a 1997-batch IPS officer, previously served as the ADGP (law and order) in Punjab. His appointment marks the second change at the chief director-rank in a month, as Rao’s predecessor, DGP Varinder Kumar, a 1993-batch IPS officer, was removed from the position after holding it for three years and leading high-profile corruption investigations.
Following his removal, Rao has been reassigned as ADGP (provisioning) in the Punjab Police, with Sudhanshu Kumar Srivastava relieved of the additional charge.

With Parmar taking charge, further changes are expected within the Vigilance Bureau, as he is likely to bring in his trusted team members, which could result in another reshuffle of key officials in the state’s anti-corruption body, people privy to the development said.

On February 17, the Punjab government removed Varinder Kumar from the post of vigilance bureau (VB) head, appointing G Nageswara Rao in his place.

Kumar’s removal came in the wake of several high-profile cases, including those against former minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu and the PSIEC scam, falling flat in the high court.
