| Waqf Amendment Act is Biased, Awaiting Supreme Court Verdict: CM Omar Abdullah | | | |  Srinagar, April 14 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has voiced strong opposition to the Waqf Amendment Act 2025, asserting that the legislation appears to be discriminatory toward a particular religious community.
Addressing media personnel in New Delhi, Abdullah confirmed that his party has already approached the Supreme Court to challenge the act.
“We’ve submitted a petition to the Supreme Court. It’s now up to the honourable judges to deliberate and decide,” Abdullah stated, as reported by the Kashmir News Service .
He further mentioned that multiple organisations have also moved the apex court on the same issue.
Highlighting his concerns, the Chief Minister remarked, “This law seems to be aimed specifically at one religious group. In a secular country like ours, every religion must be treated with equal respect. We believe it's our constitutional right to receive equal treatment.”
He concluded by placing faith in the judicial process: “We have taken the legal route and now await the Supreme Court’s judgment on this matter.”
