Tourists Stranded After Landslides Hit North Sikkim

Sikkim APRIL 25:-
North Sikkim Administration has informed that huge landslides have occurred at Munshithang on Lachen Chungthang road and Lema/Bob on Lachung Chungthang road. Continuous rainfall is being reported across North Sikkim. The road up to Chungthang remains open; however, due to heavy rain, it is not accessible during nighttime.
In light of this situation, no permits for North Sikkim will be issued today. All previously issued permits stand cancelled with immediate effect. Tour operators are requested to take note and inform travellers accordingly.
Talking to Media News reporters Mangan District Collector Anant Jain has said that the road from Gangtok to Chungthang is open, so that people who had travelled to Lachen or Lachung yesterday can return to Gangtok once they reach Chungthang. Mr. Jain further assured that road repair work is underway on a war footing, and efforts are being made to establish an alternative route. He expressed hope that by tonight, the stranded tourists in Lachen and Lachung may be brought back to Gangtok via an alternate route.
