22 African Miss World Contestants Visit Telangana Tourism Park

NEW DELHI MAY 16-
A total of 22 Miss World contestants from the African continent visited the Telangana Tourism Park in Bhoodan Pochampally last evening, where they explored the world-renowned Ikkat handlooms and the region’s rich cultural heritage. The contestants learned about the intricate weaving process by observing local artisans at work and even tried their hand at spinning yarn.
Yadadri Bhuvanagiri District Collector Hanumantha Rao briefed the visitors on the village’s significance, stating that Pochampally holds great importance not only for Telangana but for the entire country. He noted that the weaver community here weaves not just with thread, but with heart, history, and heritage. Pochampally’s Ikat was granted a Geographical Indication (GI) tag in 2004, and in 2021, the village was recognised as one of the best tourism villages in the world
In a parallel event, 35 Miss World contestants representing the Caribbean and Americas regions visited the Yadagirigutta temple in Telangana.
