Srinagar, Nov 6 : The work on the doubling of the railway line from Qazigund to Budgam will begin soon, as the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the section has been finalised and is in an advanced stage of approval.

A senior railway official, while speaking to media reporters, said that the announcement was made during a recent review meeting held in New Delhi before Diwali.

“The DPR for the Qazigund–Budgam doubling project has been finalised and is in a very advanced stage. Once approved, work on the ground will start shortly,” the official said.

He added that the survey for the Jammu–Katra section has also been initiated, where the alignment has been finalised to assess expenditure and technical feasibility.
Meanwhile, the DPRs for new railway lines connecting Sopore–Kupwara and Baramulla–Uri have already been submitted to the Railway Board, the official said, adding that proposals for the Shopian and Pahalgam routes are under preparation and will be submitted in the coming months.

“The government is committed to expanding railway connectivity across Jammu and Kashmir to ensure better transportation, tourism promotion, and regional development,” the official added.
