RAMPANT CORRUPTION IN THE RELIEFCOMMISSIONER'S OFFICE IN J&K
Investigation into the allotment of shops to Kashmiri migrants should be conducted

Jammu, December 13 (Ashok Raina)
Many questions still persist regarding whose names the shops and quarters are allotted to. Just as loans have been sanctioned without proper investigation, shops and quarters have been allotted in the same manner. It is being reported that people who already own two or three houses and shops, or who have been allotted shops and quarters by the Relief and Rehabilitation Department from Delhi to the Kashmir Valley, are being given further allotments, and this practice continues unabated.

The level of corruption in the Relief Commissioner's office is so rampant that only God knows how this problem can be solved. If you want to know the truth, I myself submitted several applications to the Commissioner regarding the shop allotment from 2008 onwards, under a special receipt system, and I also inquired about the status of these applications multiple times through the RTI Act of 2005. But in the end, it turned out to be a case of much ado about nothing. There is rampant corruption in this office. It's impossible to get even the simplest task done without paying a bribe.

It is noteworthy that since the past couple of years many more changes have been taking place in this office; things are happening here that could never have been imagined. Consider this a government ploy, or perhaps a twist of fate in history, or maybe we are simply victims of misfortune, being destroyed and wiped out.

I too have had many experiences since childhood, but the current government's approach is presenting a rather shameful picture. They are providing government jobs through backdoors, issuing orders for four jobs to members of the same family. It seems that the double-engine government is working four times as hard.

It would be even better if we could add some humor to the discussion about which displaced Kashmiri Pandits have been approved for loans to start their own businesses. The question of who has been given opportunities for self-employment is simply a joke but who will enquire about the matter is not possible at this prevailed situation and unfortunate period of time faced by our country men.

I also made many attempts to get a government job and passed several All India level examinations, but what happened next is an interesting story: those who didn't even apply for government jobs were given high-ranking positions. What happened from the last near about one and half decades is a sad story. Uneducated and ignorant people were given government jobs, those who were involved in scams and faced fines and imprisonment were also given government jobs to silence them. It's as if we are facing a period of great misfortune in this country. Believe me, the said years brought an era of incredible violence and brutality. Investigation into the allotment of shops to Kashmiri migrants should be conducted.
