Cabinet Approves 3 New Corridors Of Delhi Metro Worth ₹12,015 Crore; PM Modi Says, Delhi Metro Expansion To Boost ‘Ease Of Living’ In National Capital
 
NEW DELHI DECEMBER 24:-
The Union Cabinet has approved three new corridors as part of Delhi Metro’s Phase 5 (A) Project worth around 12 thousand 15 crore rupees. These corridors are R.K Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, Aerocity to Airport Terminal -1, and Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj. Briefing the media in New Delhi after the cabinet meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said that with this expansion, the Delhi metro network will cross 400 kilometres.

He said that 13 new metro stations will be constructed. He said, the R K Ashram Marg – Indraprastha section will be an extension of the Botanical Garden- R.K. Ashram Marg corridor. It will provide Metro connectivity to the Central Vista area, which is currently under redevelopment.

Mr Vaishnav informed that the Central Vista corridor will provide connectivity to all the Kartavya Bhawans, thereby providing doorstep connectivity to the office goers and visitors in this area. He said, with this metro connectivity, around 60 thousand office goers and two lakh visitors will get benefitted on a daily basis. The Minister said that, in the last 11 years, revolutionary changes have been witnessed in the metro sector.

The Minister said that the Aerocity – Airport Terminal -1 and Tughlakabad – Kalindi Kunj sections will be an extension of the Aerocity-Tughlakabad corridor. He said, this will boost connectivity of the airport with the southern parts of the national capital in areas such as Tughlakabad, Saket and Kalindi Kunj. Mr Vaishnav informed that these metro extensions of the Phase – 5 (A) project will expand the reach of the Delhi Metro network in Central Delhi and the Domestic Airport, which will further boost the economy.

Delhi Metro has the largest Metro network in the country, and it is also one of the largest Metros in the world. It has completed 23 years of operations, marking more than two decades of transforming urban mobility in the National Capital Region. India has become the third-largest metro network in the world after China and the USA. The new corridor approved today will enhance connectivity, reduce congestion on road and improve air quality.

Presently, a total of 12 metro lines of about 395 kilometres with 289 stations are being operated by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation. The Delhi Metro has become the lifeline of the city by setting the epitome of excellence in the core parameters of punctuality, reliability, and safety. Today, it caters to an average of 65 lakh passenger journeys per day.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today highlighted that Delhi’s infrastructure has got a major boost. In a social media post, Mr Modi said the Cabinet’s approval for three new corridors as part of Delhi Metro’s Phase V(A) Project will expand the capital’s metro network, thus boosting ‘Ease of Living’ and reducing congestion.
