| Jobs, Wages, Power Bills Top Agenda for PDP in Upcoming Budget Session: MLA Waheed ul Rehman Para | | | |  SRINAGAR, Jan 10 : Ahead of the Assembly meeting, Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Pulwama, Waheed-ur-Rehman Para, on Saturday outlined a series of pressing public issues that he intends to raise in the upcoming Budget Session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, slated to begin on February 2, 2026.
Speaking with media reporters here today, the Pulwama legislator highlighted unemployment, the long-pending regularization of daily wage workers, and reservations as key matters requiring immediate legislative attention. He also reaffirmed his party’s commitment to revisiting the land bill issue in the session.
"The financial distress in the Union Territory, insecurity among horticulturists, and fundamental public concerns over water supply, roads, and electricity—particularly the widespread public demand to either halt smart meter installations or reduce power tariffs—will be taken up vigorously," MLA Para stated.
He said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) would forcefully articulate these issues in the Assembly. "With full conviction, the PDP will raise these subjects and strive to address the basic problems of the people," he added.
On matters of regional stability, the MLA reiterated his party's consistent stance. "The PDP has always stood for peace and supports every decision that fosters harmony and mutual understanding to each other at the all level with confidence and full esteem power.
Notably, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has summoned the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly to convene for its Budget Session beginning February 2, 2026.
The summons were issued by the Lieutenant Governor under the powers vested in him by the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019. According to an order communicated all the people of state recently that will meet in Jammu on Monday, February 2, 2026, at 10:00 AM.
The session will commence with the Lieutenant Governor’s address to the joint assembly session. A separate notice issued by the Assembly Secretariat under Section 21(1) of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, has called upon all Members of the Legislative Assembly to assemble at the Legislative Assembly Complex in Jammu for the address.
Following the discussion on the Lieutenant Governor’s address, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who also holds the finance portfolio, is expected to present the Union Territory’s second budget in the first week of February.
The Budget Session is likely to be held in two phases. The first part is expected to conclude before the commencement of the holy month of Ramadan, after which the House is likely to go into a month-long recess. The session is expected to resume after Eid-ul-Fitr to complete the remaining business. | | | | |
