Election to Chhattisgarh assembly concludes

The voting started at 8 am for 72 seats in 19 districts and ended at 5 pm.Two polling booths of Bindranawagarh assembly segment started an hour earlier at 7 am and closed at 3 pm.
The second phase saw a polling percentage of 72 percent which is likely to go up as final figures are tabulated.
Of the 19 districts that went to the polls, security was extra tight in Left Wing Extremist affected Gariaband, Dhamtari, Mahasamund, Kabirdham, Jashpur and Balrampur districts.
Over One crore 53 lakh voters were entitled to cast their ballots deciding the fate of 1079 candidates in this phase.
19,296 polling stations were set up across the 19 districts to ensure smooth polling.

The queues started building up from the morning, through the afternoon, right up till the end of polling, which concluded peacefully.

An estimated 1.5 lakh paramilitary personnel kept a keen watch to ensure free and fair polling.
The Election Commission had gone out of its way to encourage people to exercise their right to vote, with special greetings for voters, and decorations suitable for a festival the festival of democracy.
The elderly and women were seen voting enthusiastically.
Even the few nearly 100 years of age made the journey to vote, as did divyangs.Women with their infants, some just a few weeks old also exercised their voting rights.

Chief Minister Raman Singh and leaders of all parties, exercised their franchise as did Chief Electoral Officer Subrata Sahu.
The state, in the past, has seen a direct contest between the BJP and the Congress.
But in this election, Ajit Jogi's party Janata Congress Chhattisgarh and its coalition partner the BSP have made the contest a triangular one.
Voting for the first phase took place on November 12 in 18 Naxal-affected seats.
It saw a voter turnout of more than 76 percent.
The battleground of Chhattisgarh has now reserved its verdict in the EVMs for the time being, until results are announced along with other battleground states on December 11.
