India assured of four medals in Women's World Boxing Championships

Four Indian boxers including five-time world champion MC Mary Kom advanced to the quarterfinals of the Women's World Boxing Championships in New Delhi today. Mary Kom defeated Aigerim Kessenayeva of Kazakhstan to reach the quarterfinals of 48 kg category. The 35-year-old, who got a first round bye, won the pre-quarterfinal-match beating her Kazak opponent by an unanimous 5-0 decision.
Boxer Manisha Maun, Lovlina Borgohain and Bhagyabati Kachar also advanced to the quarterfinals in their respective weight categories. Manisha defeated World Champion Dina Zholamanby from Kazakhstan 5-0 in 54 kg category to enter the quarter-finals of the Championships.
In the 69 kg welter weight category, Lovlina defeated Panama's Atheyna Bylon by an unanimous 5-0 decision to progress to the quarters while Bhagyabati defeated Irina-Nicoletta Schonberger of Germany by a 4-1 split decision in the 81 kg light heavy weight category.
Meanwhile, Sarita Devi lost to her Ireland's opponent Kellie Anne Harrington in the lightweight 60 kg category by a split 2-3 decision.
