Bandipora-Gurez road to reopen within three days

Srinagar, Jan 10 (Agencies): Even as the weather remains challenging in hilly regions Project Beacon of Border Roads is making all out efforts to clear the snow on Bandipora -Gurez road to make the road through for vehicular traffic.
Despite freezing weather conditions and icy surface on the 86-km long stretch of Bandipora Gurez Road, it is for the first time that Border Road Organisation is putting its workforce and machinery to clear the road off snow in winters to provide extended connectivity.
“We are making efforts to open the road for traffic to connect Dawar with the rest of the world even though the weather conditions are extremely unfavorable and hostile for such a task,” said the Officer commanding Lt Col APS Khaira of 56 RCC. He said that the road will be opened for traffic in three days time provided all goes well as the snow clearance team have crossed the Razdhan pass located at 11672 fts.
The snow accumulation at the Razdhan pass is over seven feets and the sub zero temperature make the surface icy. “Once the road is through the safety measure has to be ensured by the district Administration by allowing 4/4 vehicles with non-skid chains.” Officer Commanded said and added that regular assessment of the road has to be done to ensure the safety of the commuters
