India and Pakistan hold first meeting to discuss modalities and the draft Agreement for facilitation of pilgrims to visit Gurudwara Kartarpur Sahib using the Kartarpur Corridor; Next meeting to be held on 2 April, 2019.

India and Pakistan officials on Thursday held first meeting to discuss the modalities and the draft Agreement for facilitation of pilgrims to visit Gurudwara Kartarpur Sahib using the Kartarpur Corridor. The meeting was held at Attari, India in a cordial environment.

Both sides held detailed and constructive discussions on various aspects and provisions of the proposed agreement and agreed to work towards expeditiously operationalizing the Kartapur Sahib Corridor.

Both sides also held expert level discussions between the technical experts on the alignment and other details of the proposed corridor.

It was agreed to hold the next meeting at Wagah on 2 April 2019. This will be preceded by a meeting of the technical experts on 19 March 2019 at the proposed zero points to finalize the alignment.

India has identified 50 acres of land for the Kartarpur Sahib corridor. The Passenger Terminal Building complex, to be built in two phases, will be a state of the art green building and display murals/photographs based on rich Indian cultural values. The design of the complex is inspired by the symbol 'Khanda' which symbolizes values of oneness and humanity. The building will facilitate movement of nearly five thousand pilgrims everyday. Sources said, robust security system will be put in place in and around the Passenger Terminal Building. Sources said, efforts are being made to ensure that the first phase of the Passenger Terminal Building become operational well before the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.
