Bangladesh: Injured Indian student from J&K airlifted to Delhi for treatment
New Delhi 14 June(Agencies)
A seriously injured student from Rajouri District of Jammu and Kashmir was airlifted by the government of India from a Dhaka hospital to Delhi on Monday.

The student Shoaib Lone met with a serious road accident on June 3 in which one of his friends died and two including Shoaib Lone were seriously injured. He was admitted to a local private hospital in Dhaka for treatment.

However, when the family arrived in Dhaka, they found that the condition of the student was very serious. As he remained in a coma, the family feared that they would not be in a position to afford his continued treatment at a private hospital in Bangladesh. The father of the student, who is a Government employee, told news-agency ANI that a local leader of his hometown area contacted the Prime Minister's office, at which point, PM Narendra Modi instructed the High Commissioner of India in Dhaka to assess the situation and extend all possible assistance.

Since the High Commission team was already in contact with the family and classmates of Shoaib, the Mission team were able to prepare necessary arrangements for airlifting the student, with the direct assistance of Health and Civil Aviation Ministries in India.

At the same time, High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Vikram Doraiswami visited the hospital on Sunday night to meet and reassure the parents, and to see the patient and his doctors. With the consent of all concerned, the Mission recommended immediate airlifting of the student for further care at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi.

Shoaib Lone reached Delhi on Monday afternoon by air ambulance arranged by the Government. He is currently admitted at the Trauma Centre of AIIMS, New Delhi under treatment for serious injuries.

Aslam Lone, the father of the student, expressed his deep thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his prompt action in ensuring the airlift of his injured son, reports ANI
